CRM Studios Living in the Future with IOT Projects
By Tom Kirkhart
One of the fun things we get to do at CRM Studios is learn lots of cool stuff about our clients’ businesses. With the Internet of Things (IOT) expected to connect 4.9 billion things this year, well, that’s something to watch. At present, only about 3% of the business world is keeping up with IOT.
The Internet of Things
IOT is a term used to describe the future of many of our appliances, cars, houses, pretty much anything manufactured for us as humans. It refers to devices that collect and transmit data via the internet. The central thought is that living in the future with IOT means everything is connected to the internet.
So in essence, your TV and car and home thermostat and lights all talk to each other and learn your daily habits. You are watching the morning news on TV and leave your house. The lights go off, the thermostat sets itself to your away settings and your car video system plays the news show you were just watching. It will change the way we do everyday things.
Living in the Future with IOT
When you come home in the evening and walk into your house, your refrigerator knows it’s dinner time and what you like to eat. It already takes an inventory of what it has inside and determines several recipes that can be made from the ingredients you have on hand. No need to leave and go get food for tonight, your refrigerator did all the prep work for you.
Oh, and when you walk in the door, the AC system realizes you’re now home and immediately turns the temperature to your favorite 76 degrees. These devices will know you better than you know you. Pretty darned cool!
A Booming, No, Exploding Business
Recently we watched a really well done video on the incredible growth of IOT that said by 2020 there will be around 7.5 billion people on the globe. And that there will be six IOT items connected to the Internet for every one of those 7.5 billion people! Do the math.
Experts predict that some people could have as many as 30 connected devices, while others may have only one or two. Just a few years ago, we had only a couple of devices that could even plug into the internet. What a change.
Where does CRM Fit in the IOT?
What CRM Studios has been doing is creating shows for some big corporate leaders, demonstrating how living in the future with IOT will change how we all live, work and play together. These companies are intimately involved in the evolution of product manufacturing and are immersed in the development of IOT products. While we aren’t yet able to disclose some of these players, over time they will become apparent to our followers.
Once these IOT stories are sharable, we’ll let you see where your world is going. I promise you will be amazed.
